An outbreak of rice blast disease has occurred in some parts of Rajanna-Sircilla and Karimnagar Districts in the Indian State of Telangana.
The District Agriculture Office has issued an advisory to the farmers in the district to take prompt and preventive measures to prevent a decline in the rabi season yield.
The disease is caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae and can affect the leaf, collar, node, neck, parts of panicle, and sometimes leaf sheath of rice plants. Infected plants may develop few or no grains at all.
