The Mindanao Development Authority and the Cotabato provincial government will launch the Quick Turn-Around Plan to produce additional rice to prevent the potential shortage in rice supply in Mindanao.
The action plan includes ratooning for newly-harvested rice fields, early planting using high-yielding hybrid or inbred rice varieties in areas with sufficient irrigation, and expanding upland rice and rain-fed farming areas using a new hybrid rice variety that does not require irrigation.
The program will be replicated in other rice-producing provinces of Mindanao targeting a total area of 300,000 hectares.
