The initial amount of damages and losses caused by Typhoon Vongfong to the Philippine agriculture sector reached more than USD 3 million.
Rice, corn, high-value crops, and livestock were damaged in the typhoon-ravaged regions of Southern Tagalog, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas, according to the Department of Agriculture.
However, the harvesting of agricultural products before the typhoon struck helped save 416,732 tons of rice valued around USD 140 thousand and 208,890 tons of corn amounting to USD 59 thousand.
