Korea’s rice production could drop by as much as 40.1% at the end of this century if the temperature keeps surging due to climate change, according to the National Institute of Crop Science’s Crop Production and Physiology Division,
The projection was based on general circulation model scenarios and crop environment resource synthesis that tested the effect of future climate conditions on 200 Korean rice varieties.
Researchers were urged to hasten the research and development of “super rice” to offset the impact of climate change.
