Odisha’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE) and IRRI signed a bilateral agreement to understand the dynamics and impact of drought in the state and identify the mitigation options for smallholder farmers.
Under the agreement, IRRI, DA&FE, and Odisha State Disaster Management Agency will support the overall drought mitigation strategy in the state through comprehensive research and pilot experiments to identify, introduce, evaluate, and scale drought-resilient varieties in the state.
Varietal interventions and other climate-smart technologies will be made through community-led models and public-private partnerships in the seed chain.
