IRRI organized a gender-responsive workshop on systems and strategies that are most conducive to providing women and smallholder farmers access to quality seeds and timely and accurate information about seeds.
The activity is part of the CGIAR Seed Equal Initiative to improve the productivity and nutrition of women and marginalized farmers through increased access to seeds of improved, climate-resilient, and market-preferred varieties.
“While women play an important role in agricultural production and seed management, they tend to have limited access to sources of information about seed and varieties and also the seed itself,” said Dr. Ranjitha Puskur, lead of the scaling equitable access to quality seed component of the CGIAR Seed Equal Initiative. “This is due to various social and gender norms like limited mobility, access to resources, and institutional networks.”
