China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchange, African Union, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, and other contributing parties agreed to leverage their comparative advantages to promote China-Africa rice value chain cooperation by strengthening agricultural business and adapting and investing in suitable rice technologies.
The initiative was reached at the China-Africa rice cooperation workshop held during the first China-Africa Trade Expo in Hunan.
China’s success in feeding the world’s largest population with its limited farmland and transforming smallholder agriculture into a profitable business is illuminating for African countries’ approach to food security, according to workshop participants.
The meeting was sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
