The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) encourages farmers to plant heat-tolerant rice varieties to mitigate the projected temperature increases due to climate change.
The agency developed the National Seed Industry Council (NISC) Rc 600 and Rc 602 which can tolerate temperatures up to 38 C and still produce up to 7 tons per hectare.
Seeds of the two varieties are available at PhilRice’s Business Development Division.
