The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization launched the Rice Mechanization Component under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund. Rice mechanization is one of the components of the country’s Rice Tariffication Law.
The Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund was created under the recently passed law and will receive almost USD 200,000 annually from 2019 to 2024 to improve rice production in the country. The funds will come from rice tariffs collections. Aside from mechanization of rice farms, the fund will also provide for high-yielding in-bred rice seeds, credit support, and extension support and education of rice farmers.
