The Thai government is developing a strategy for its rice sector that aims to increase the average domestic paddy production to 3,700 kg/ha by 2024. The strategy also focuses on developing more rice varieties with premium-grade grains.
Thailand’s Commerce Minister said higher spending on R&D for rice seeds and varietal development is crucial to attaining the government’s strategic goals.
For the 2020/21 season, Thailand is projected to produce 20 million tons of milled rice or an average yield of 2,450/ha.
